Hi Donald,
Sorry for taking so long in sending this note but I just wanted say how much we enjoyed our golf trip to Scotland. You deserve a great deal of credit for being patient with us initially and arranging the most wonderful golf experience. Everything worked perfectly from the van hire, the accommodations and the courses with nary a hitch. We all had high expectations for this trip (I certainly did) and I believe I speak for the others by saying it met and exceeded our expectations.
You asked how we were received at our accommodations and the courses and I say it could not have been any better. Everyone was very helpful and friendly (no surprise there being that all the folks were Scots right? Just kidding). Of course my colleagues had a couple of blank stares on their faces at times when the burr got heavy aim tae the wee hut or keep tae the left awa fae the burn.
You asked about our favorite courses. For me it was very hard to separate them for different reasons:
- Royal Troon was great because this was our first round and the weather was perfect.
- Turnberry where the weather was also perfect and the scenery even more impressive.
- Carnoustie where I saw Jack, Arnie and Gary play back in 1967.
- Royal Dornoch where we had a wee bit rain then sun then rainbows and wind and amazing beauty
- Nairn where the wind was at its strongest but the sun shone brightly. I asked the starter at Dornoch where his favorite course was and he replied Royal Dornoch but the greens at Nairn may be the best in Scotland. Maybe his comment influenced me but I thought the greens at Nairn were so true.
- If I was forced to choose a course it would have to be playing on the Old Course. Growing up in Dundee I often stood at the course and wondered what it would be like to actually tee off in front of the R & A. Well, thanks to Golf Around Scotland, my boyhood dreams were realized and having a birdie on the 8th hole was just icing on the cake.
People often bash Scotland because of the food but I think we did quite well in that department and I know we did exceptionally well in the drink department. Throughout the trip we gave each other high fives because it was such a thrill to be with friends on these great courses in such favorable weather conditions.
Thanks again for organizing this amazing trip. I would heartily endorse your company.
All the best!
Bill
Donald,
I realised that my old email address no longer works, as such, I would not have received an email if you sent something in the past couple weeks.
First off, I would like to reiterate what we spoke about on the phone - the trip was outstanding. The golf, the hotel and your restaurant suggestions were all wonderful. You did an incredible job planning the trip.
As you suspected, Kingsbarns was without a doubt one of the favourite courses of our foursome. Also, Carnoustie was better (not as punishing) than we all suspected and another favourite. All of the tee times were right when requested; the caddies / carts were ready to go for the requested games. We could not have asked for a better line-up of games.
The van rental company was very good and kindly let us take a smaller vehicle – this was a definite plus. For our next trip we will likely use a driver rather than a rental van. We slightly underestimated the difficulties of driving on the “wrong” side of the road and while we emerged unscathed, the drives were something of an adventure (maybe a plus for the passengers if not the driver).
We are currently putting together a group for another trip to Scotland. Right now we are thinking 2011, but that might move either way. Thanks again for the great trip you put together and I look forward to speaking with you at a later date to discuss future trips.
Kind regards,
Mark
Donald:
Firstly, let me thanks you so much for all your help on the Golf trip we took this last week. Without your help the trip would not have been such a success. The weather was absolutely fantastic. The golf courses were in perfect shape and Gordon and his team were the best.
The birthday was just blown away by everything. Thank you so much and I will be sure to refer you to anyone I know who is planning to book a trip to Scotland.
It is nice to know that good service and attention to detail still abounds.
Thanks again
Gavin Elwes
Donald,
Just a brief note to thank you for the excellent arrangements for our recent Golf break. Everything went smoothly. We really appreciated your detailed itinerary including the route planners!
The staff at the courses, particularly Carnoustie, were outstanding and made us really welcome.
Already planning the 2009 Tour and will be in touch!
Many thanks
Neil McKenzie
Donald,
Let me take this time to assure you that we all had
a great time playing the courses you recommended and booked. I still get SMSes and mails from my buddies expressing their satisfaction with everything. Also what was a very nice experience was that it is possible to do a low cost trip like this. Most trips you read about in golf magazines are out of reach for the common man, but this setup should be in reach for many people.
The timings were also perfect, and as you may have understood, we also included a visit to Edradour Destillery on Saturday after gold, another success event. So all in all we had a tight, but well syncronized schedule without any gpas to be filled, probably something that contributed to the success of the trip.
Arriving at the Guest House in Ayr was almost like arriving at some relative's. What a friendliness and helpfulness without even being asked for! It was almost kind of sad to leave them, as we did not know what would meet us later on, but we met great friendliness througout the rest of the trip as well.
I must admit that the Dunkeld and Birnam golf course was my favourite course of them all. Probably the the least posh of them all, maybe also the least expensive, but still so totally charming and differennt from anything you find in Norway with the terrain it was located in.
Another charming thing was on Saturday when we played Murrayshall, over the hills suddenly we heard bagpipe music. Then you really knew you were in Scotland! The music kept on for quite a while, only adding flavour to the game and stay.
You probably had nothing to do with the weather, but the weater was also fantastic for the entire stay, so all in all a fantastic extended week end in Scotland.
One of the guys from the trip plans to take his father to Scotland in connection with his 60th birthday next year, so I gave him your cotact info, and you will probably be hearing from him.
We are planning a trip to Ireland in the spring (and maybe return to Scotland next autumn). Are you aware of anyone in Ireland providing the same kind of services as you, i e taylor made golf trips?
Regars,
Ole J Iversen
Donald,
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. After the golf week my wife and I rented a converted barn for a month in Yorkshire. We returned to Canada yesterday and I promised my group I would contact you and express our appreciation for a job well done on your part. We had a great time - all four of the courses you selected were really great, we found the courses to be in good condition and the staff very friendly and helpful, all had good snack and meal facilities which we enjoyed. Both hotels were fine.
Overall we found the holiday to be exceptional value for money and will have no hesitation in using your services again and recommending it to our friends.
Best regards John Piggott
Donald,
Just got back from a marvellous trip, and wanted to drop you a line on behalf of me and my father. We can't thank you enough for everything you did for us (most notably on the day of the Gleneagles episode!!!) and your itinerary and choice of courses truly made it a trip of a lifetime. 1 good hotel, 3 magnificent courses (pga at Gleneagles an unexpected bonus) and 2 happy golfers.
Once Again
Thankyou, and we will be in touch for next year !!
Marc and Roy Wood
Donald,
We all arrived home safely and everyone had a great time in Scotland. I can't think of one thing that was not to our absolute satisfaction. The big bonus was the weather. I had been watching the forecast for several weeks prior to the trip, and it did not look good. With the exception of day 1, it was mostly sunny. We hired Gordon to drive us to Kingsbarns, Dukes, and he made several trips into Edinburgh for us. Good reliable guy.
The highlight for me personally was playing the Old Course. It was all I had hoped. The 2005 British Open on the Old Course is what prompted me to organize the trip. All the courses were fabulous, in particular Kingsbarns.
The four that were not successful in the ballot went down to the Old Course at 5:30 a.m. on the Friday, and all were out by 8:30. So, we had 100% success for our group.
Thanks for your help putting our trip together. I can certainly recommend your company.
Best Regards,
Glenn
Dear Donald,
I will thank you for a fantastic golf trip, every thing was great, the courses, living and off course the nice weather, not so normal for Scotland.
I will be in touch with you for future golf trips.
One's again a real big thank you.
Sincerely
Jan Jonsson from Sweden
Dear Donald
I would like to say thank you for arranging a great weekend of golf for my friends and I. The Royal Dunkeld hotel was perfect and had very friendly staff. The rooms were also lovely.
Dunkeld golf course is a gem of a course and in great condition.
Gleneagles goes without saying. By far the best course I have ever played. The weather was perfect for both rounds.
Hopefully we will be back to Scotland in the not too distant future and will use your services again.
Kind Regards
Ben
Good Morning

Hi Donald,
We have just returned from a great golfing vacation in the Nairn area. Weather was better than expected; we had a shower or two on a couple of the rounds, but all in all we were very happy with how the weather turned out (mainly cloudy, and actually no wind except for the last day at Nairn).
Some other comments:
Courses:
They were all very good courses, but not surprisingly the highlights were Royal Dornoch and Nairn. Also very much enjoyed the two courses at Moray. The three park/inland courses (Boat of Garten, Spey Valley and Nairn Dunbar) were also good fun, but I think we all agreed that we preferred the traditional links courses. We were also well received on all the courses.
Hotel:
As mentioned on the phone we were very pleased with the hotel (Claymore). Having the Inveran house, including the ?living? room, to ourselves (I think for almost all days) was very good. Breakfast also good + for the days we arrived late from playing golf they made us sandwiches to eat in the bar. Very friendly and helpful staff.
So, the four of us returned to Norway yesterday, somewhat tired after playing 12 rounds in seven days :), but already looking forward to our next trip to Scotland.
Thanks for organizing the trip on our behalf and we look forward to using your services in the future. Will also recommend you to my golfing friends.
All the best,
Geir
